Beware of fake Whatsapp for PC emails - pakdin.my

With over 400 million active monthly users and counting, it was only a matter of time before malicious trojans and malware makers would use the WhatsApp name as a means of getting unsuspecting users to install malwares on their PCs. Earlier today, Kaspersky Lab Expert, Dmitry Bestuzhev discovered an email claiming to be a mass mailer from WhatsApp encouraging users to install WhatsApp for PC, which would in other words allow you to communicate with other WhatsApp users via your desktop.

Unfortunately, no such application has been released by WhatsApp Inc. Instead, the email comes loaded with a cleverly disguised executable which, once executed installs a malware/trojan horse on your PC. More detailed breakdown on the payload and what it does can be found at Dimitry Bestuzhev’s post here.

So, just to recap, WhatsApp does not and probably will never have a version that works on Windows or OSX, and if you do receive an email informing you that millions of your friends have already installed it, you might want to delete the email instead of trying it out.
