BERSIH 5 SARAWAK: TANPA BAJU MERAH, KEHADIRAN TURUN 92% - pakdin.my

‘Sarawak Bersih whimper shows wariness of foreign link’

KUCHING: A former senator says the low turnout at yesterday’s Sarawak Bersih rally showed a lack of trust among Sarawakians of an organisation that might have a foreign agenda.

Idris Buang, a Supreme Council member of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu, said Sarawakians had shown political maturity in the face of empty rhetoric by the organisers.

“The rally yesterday was a mere whimper,” he told.

Organisers said 400 people turned up, compared to the 5,000 at last year’s rally.

Idris, a former senator, said: “It is simply that Sarawakians are matured enough to know that Bersih organisers are not sincere as they have a foreign agenda to fulfill. Police are cracking down on them over reports they have foreign funding, in particular the Open Society Foundations, in which the notorious (George) Soros has been said to have direction and control over it.”

Sarawak Bersih leaders have said the local chapter is locally funded through public donations, and some funds from the main office in Petaling Jaya.
