Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir has launched a ‘Save Kedah’ campaign. And you can see (below) a ‘pious’ Mukhriz in prayer with a tattered flag of Kedah as the icon or logo for this campaign. It looks like that flag has been shot at with at least 1,000 bullets.
Or is Kedah that poor they cannot afford to buy a new flag? I am sure Mukhriz can spare a few Ringgit from his billions to buy a new flag to replace that tattered one.
Anyway, the issue is: save Kedah from what and/or from whom? There must be a clear and present danger or threat to Kedah for Mukhriz to want to save the state. Is he saying that Kedah must be saved from Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak? And if so then what danger or threat is Najib to Kedah?
Is Najib going to take away the 5% oil royalty that the state is entitled to — just like 16 years ago in January 2000 when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad took away the 5% oil royalty that Terengganu was entitled to?
If so then we really need to save Kedah or else Kedah’s RM1 billion a year oil royalty that it is entitled to will ‘disappear into thin air’ just like RM16 billion of Terengganu’s oil royalty money and RM42 billion of 1MDB’s money that ‘disappeared into thin air’.
But hold on, Kedah is not entitled to RM1 billion a year oil royalty and neither did RM42 billion of 1MDB’s money disappear into thin air (although the RM16 billion of Terengganu’s oil royalty money did). So what or who do we need to save Kedah from?
Actually it is not a ‘Save Kedah’ campaign. It is a ‘Save Mukhriz’s Job’ campaign. That is what the real issue is all about.
When they want to save Anwar Ibrahim’s ass and try to prevent him from going to jail they launch a ‘Save Malaysia’ campaign. When they want to oust Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim and replace him with Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail they launch a ‘Save Selangor’ campaign. When they want to oust Najib and replace him with a Mahathir-proxy as the new Prime Minister they launch a ‘Save 1MDB’ campaign.
Now that they want to save Proton and stop it from going bankrupt are they going to launch a ‘Save the AP Holders’ campaign? But then Rafidah Aziz has just said that Malays should stop depending on the government and should stop being rent-seekers and should learn to stand on their own feet. Does this mean all forms of APs should be abolished?
What about scholarships and student loans for Malays? Should these also be abolished — as well as special schools like MCKK and ITM that are only for Malays? And should Malays still get discounts on houses that they buy and should developers be forced by law to allocate a certain percentage of their development for Bumiputera buyers?
Yes, there are many things that need to be changed if we want Malays to be equal to non-Malays and not get special treatment and privileges.
And does Mukhriz agree with what Rafidah said since she is a strong supporter of Dr Mahathir and is anti-Najib? In that case Mukhriz is right about needing to save Kedah. Kedah needs to be saved from Umno and from the Bumiputera policy that Umno propagates.
And I am sure if Mukhriz were to announce that Kedah must be saved from Umno and from the Bumiputera policy he would get 100% support from the Chinese, Indians, Amanah and probably even from PAS as well. Mukhriz can then save himself and stay as Menteri Besar as long as it is not an Umno Menteri Besar.
So why not we simplify it and say that Najib is trying to save Umno and the Bumiputera policy while Mukhriz is trying to save Kedah from Umno? Then it would become very clear to the Umno people in Kedah regarding what the difference between the two are.
Then the fact why the DAP-led Pakatan Harapan has appointed Dr Mahathir as the de facto Opposition Leader would make sense. And Mukhriz serves his father’s agenda, which is to save Kedah from Umno, rather than to serve Umno’s interest, which is to save Kedah from falling into the hands of the DAP-led opposition.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was reported to have had an audience with the Kedah Council of Regency that further fuelled speculation that change was inevitable.
