Selangor – BN unveils people-friendly manifesto, promises include an economic corridor, security and education incentives #GE13

manifesto-bn-selangorSHAH ALAM: From installing CCTV cameras at crime hotspots, setting up day care centres and giving out scholarships, the Barisan Nasional manifesto for Selangor is targeted at the rakyat of the state.

Among its 56 promises is the setting up of an economic corridor akin to Iskandar Malaysia in Johor.

The economic zone, called the Selangor Global Logistic Hub, spans Port Klang, Kota Raja and KLIA in Sepang, and is expected to create 560,000 jobs.

Given its strategic location along the coast of the Straits of Malacca, the gross developmental value of the hub is estimated to hit RM30bil.

The manifesto encompasses seven components – the people’s well-being, welfare of the community, better quality of life, affordable housing, education, economic progress and a green ecosystem.

Barisan also pledges to provide 65,000 low and medium-cost homes in Selangor, priced between RM50,000 and RM300,000 per unit.

The breakdown includes 25,000 units valued at RM50,000 each for rural residents, and 15,000 units with a minimum size of 79 sq metres priced at RM80,000 for those earning less than RM3,000 per month.

Those earning between RM3,000 and RM5,000 per month will be entitled to buy one of the 25,000 units with a size of 93 sq metres with a maximum price of RM300,000.

On the education front, Barisan will upgrade selected Chinese and Tamil schools to high-performance school status.

Students sitting for the UPSR, PMR, SPM and STPM will get a RM200 book voucher each, while Selangor-born undergraduates will get RM1,000 if offered places for diploma courses and RM1,500 for degree courses at public academic institutions.

Students will also have access to free online tuition via Interative Sayangi Selangor Rakyat Tuition, which caters to those sitting for the UPSR, PMR and SPM.

Newborns will get a RM500 one-off payment deposited into the National Education Savings Scheme.

Students from poor families will get free school uniforms and school bags as well as free transportation coupons.

Centres will also be set up in 12 towns to provide day-care for children aged between three months and three years, care of children waiting to be picked up after school, and palliative care for the elderly.

The centres will be in Shah Alam, Klang, Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Kota Damansara, Puchong, Ampang, Gombak, Selayang, Bangi, Kajang and Rawang.

The manifesto also promises to introduce a safe city model that will cover the entire state by 2020.

This will include a rapid response team to address reports of crime, accidents and disasters, and installation of CCTV surveillance in high-risk areas.

Barisan promises to abolish quit rent for households in low-cost housing schemes, and lower quit rent, assessment tax and business tax to the pre-2008 rate.

The network of 1Malaysia clinics will be expanded across the state, and be made one-stop centres for haemodialysis, chronic diseases, and women’s health and fertility.

Barisan also promises to build and upgrade crematorium facilities in all nine districts in the state.
