We have heard of it for the longest time and now, it is finally here. First announced back in October 2011, the Porsche Design P’9981 smartphone from BlackBerry has finally landed in Malaysia which features physical traits and premium perks that are unlike other BlackBerry devices that you have seen in the market.
Reflecting Porsche Design’s status as a luxury brand, the P’9981 features premium forged stainless steel frame together with sculpted QWERTY keyboard, hand-wrapped leather back cover and 2.8-inch touch display. Runs on BlackBerry OS 7, the device also comes with exclusive Porsche Design user interface complete with premium PIN number from a set that are reserved only for P’9981 owners and a customized version of Wikitude World Browser app.
Hardware-wise, the smartphone is equipped with a 1.2GHz single-core processor, 768MB RAM and 8GB worth of internal storage as well as 5-megapixels autofocus camera with LED flash and 720p HD video recording capability. Porsche Design has also come up with a number of accessories such as Leather Pocket, Holster, Charging Pod, Ear Buds and Polishing Cloth to go together with the P’9981.
According to the initial information that we received, the new Porsche Design P’9881 smartphone from BlackBerry will be priced at RM 6,388 and apparently, Maxis is the only telco so far that will offer it to the consumers. More information on its general availability at selected retailers will be made known very soon.
Stay tuned for our brief hands-on with the new BlackBerry very soon but for the meantime, you can learn more about it over at www.porsche-design.com.

[Hands-On] Brief Look at Porsche Design P’9981 From BlackBerry
RM 6,388 – that is the price of a Porsche Design P’9981 smartphone from BlackBerry which will be available in Malaysia very soon. Clearly, the price tag alone has already showed that this device is not meant for everyone. So, what made it so special then?
Essentially, the Porsche Design P’9981 from BlackBerry features the same hardware as per BlackBerry Bold 9900 such as 1.2GHz processor, 8GB internal storage, 5-megapixels autofocus camera, 2.8-inch touch displays and many more. However, its exterior design was given a personal touch by the luxury brand through a forged stainless steel custom chassis with a leather back cover as well as a custom user interface for its BlackBerry 7 OS.
The P’9981 is clearly made for someone who has no issues with money or a huge fan of Porsche and BlackBerry as exclusivity and premium are the name of the game here. There is certainly no doubt that it goes well together with your Porsche Carrera 911 sports car and Porsche Design pen but for mere mortals like the rest of us…well, at least the P’9981 is not as costly as a Vertu.
