Umno should focus on cadreship and research among budding leaders to strengthen the party in the face of challenges, said Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said cadreship would help build character in line with the party’s ideology to churn out leaders who would truly struggle in the interest of religion, nation and country.
“Leadership training must be made compulsory in the new cadre module to inject Umno spirit among members,” he told reporters at the funeral of Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron’s father-in-law Md Zin Md Yunus, who died of old age, here today.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also home minister, said research was important to enable the party to make right decisions and avoid being misled by false support which could adversely affect the party.
“We must face the fact that in the next general election we will have 6.5million first-time voters who are highly educated, open-minded and adopting a different worldview from the present generation.
