What’s the name of Microsoft Windows 8 and Windows Phone’s interface? Metro? Wrong! Metro is only a code name for the product and recently, developers are told to refrain from using the word “Metro” in their applications and use “New User Interface” instead. It has recently been reported by TheVerge that an unnamed source says that there could be a dispute between Microsoft and a German company over the use of the name “Metro”. Developers have since been told to not use the term in their apps or associated documents.
While the German company, Metro AG, did not comment on the matter, Microsoft company officials have already confirmed that the company will be forgoing the use of the name.
“We have used Metro style as a code name during the product development cycle across many of our product lines. As we get closer to the launch and transition from industry dialog to a broad consumer dialog, we will use our commercial names.” – Microsoft Spokesperson.
So there you have it, the name Metro that has been used to describe Nokia’s interface for years will no longer be called Metro. So what name could Microsoft possibly come out with? Surface?
