KUCHING: A female college student suffered a fractured pelvis and head injuries but survived after a three-storey fall out of her hostel room window late Wednesday night.
The 21-year-old student from Sebuyau, studying at a local institution here, was preparing to go to bed when the incident happened around 11pm at the Batu Kawah New Township here.
A roommate told the police the girl was climbing onto the upper bunk of their bed when she apparently slipped off the ladder and fell out of the open window, which was not fitted with any security grille.
Fortunately for the student, the impact of her fall was lessened when she struck the ledge on each floor prior to landing on the ground below.
An ambulance was summoned to the scene to take the victim to the Sarawak General Hospital, where she was subsequently warded for further treatment
