GEORGE TOWN: A computer technician claimed trial in a Magistrate’s Court here Wednesday to cheating three women of cash and valuables totalling at RM78,000.
K.K. Prabaharan, 45, from Ipoh, Perak pleaded not guilty to three cheating charges, allegedly committed between October and December last year.
The offences under Section 420 carry a jail term of up to 10 years, and a whipping and fine.
In a report on Jan 15, Penang Commercial Crimes Department chief Asst Comm Roslee Chik said the man, who claimed to be a doctor in his Facebook profile, would flirt with women by chatting them up at random.
ACP Roslee said among the names used by the Casanova on the social networking site were Dr Shiva Nair, Dr Ragunathan Nair Krishanan, Dr Ragunathan, Ragu, and Keeran Raj.
Magistrate Norhayati Ibrahim fixed April 16 for tender of documents and set total bail at RM20,000 in three different sureties.
Prabaharan was represented by counsel Md Yusuf Md Idris.
He is expected to be charged again at the Bukit Mertajam court.
