The BlackBerry Messenger app, better known as BBM, remains one of the most popular instant messaging service on mobile. Earlier this year, we heard that BBM will no longer be exclusively available to BlackBerry users, and will soon be available on the Android and iOS platforms. At the time, however, the BlackBerry team did not provide a launch date.
At the recent BlackBerry Q5 launch in India, the BlackBerry India managing director Sunil Lalvani, looks to have finally given a definitive timeframe for BBM’s availability on one of the platforms:
“The service is coming to Android this summer. But summer as per North America, where it remains till September.”
Lalvani, however, did not confirm about the timeframe for iOS. One reason for this, presumably, may be that the BBM developers may be working on compatibility with the new iOS 7 OS that Apple has recently given an overhaul to.
