An “extensive revamp” by the Malaysian Immigration Department’s long-suspended My Immigration System will soon allow Malaysians to renew their passports online in 2014. The online renewals promises to be a pain-free affair, sparing the hassle of queuing up at packed Immigration Department offices to renew their passports, and only requiring them to come to any of the department’s branches to pick them up after they have paid for the renewals online.
The My Immigration System isn’t a new project. It was announced and went live some time in 2012, before being unceremoniously suspended with little fanfare in October. Unfortunately, the Immigration Department isn’t giving a time frame for the completion of the revamp, though The Star notes that it will go live sometime next year.
