BESUT: Noraziah Nor, widow of slain commando Insp Zulkifli Mamat, has expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for the posthumous promotion given to her husband.
Insp Zukifli and a fellow commando, Kpl Sabaruddin Daud, 46, were killed in a gun battle in Kg Tanduo, Lahad Datu, Sabah on Friday, with armed Sulu intruders.
Zulkifli was promoted to ASP, while Sabarudin to Sergeant.
“I would like to thank the prime minister and the government for their concern about me and my children, especially now that we have lost the strongest pillar in the house,” Noraziah, 28, said at her mother-in-law’s house in Kampung Kubang Ikan here on Sunday.
The mother of two, who is also a trainee teacher at SMK Tanjung Rambutan in Perak, said she would also like to thank everyone for their assistance in her husband’s funeral arrangements.
Noraziah said with the death of her husband, she would probably move back to her hometown in Perlis.
“Now that the family is not earning as much as when he was around, I may have to sell our house in Bandar Baru Putra in Ipoh before moving back to Perlis,” said the widow who was accompanied by her children Nur Aqma Amiruddin, five, and Nur Muhamad Akil, one.
Noraziah hoped that the government would solve the intrusion issue in Lahad Datu, Sabah as soon as possible to prevent more casualties.
“As a woman whose husband died while defending the country, I hope the issue will be solved soon and I truly believe that the government is capable of doing so,” she said.
